The 5GMF is publishing the links for the special issue of NTT DOCOMO’s Technical Journal on 5G Technology

The 5GMF has prepared this page on the 5GMF website to provide access to technical documents related to 5G published by our member firms, as part of our policy to make our website more useful for people interested in gathering more information related to 5G.

Our first post collects links to articles from NTT DOCOMO’s journal NTTDOCOMO Technical Journal Vol. 17 No. 4 (April, 2016) entitled “Special Articles on 5G Technologies towards 2020 Deployment”. This special issue provides an overview of 5G with use cases based on technical requirements and trials as well as strategies and activities related to the realization of 5G services by 2020.

The articles can be downloaded by clicking their titles on the list below.

NTT DOCOMO 5G Activities -Toward 2020 Launch of 5G Services-
Descriptions of NTT DOCOMO’s definitions and technical concepts as well as standardization activities and strategies for the deployment of 5G by 2020.

5G Radio Access Technology
This article describes Radio Access Technology (RAT), one of the most important technologies for the realization of 5G, including the technical standards needed in the process of developing this technology and representative component technology.

5G Multi-antenna Technology
One aim of 5G is to utilize high frequency bands for broadband more than now. Since radio propagation loss increases in high frequency bands, multi-antenna technology will be used to mitigate these losses. This article describes multi-antenna technology as it relates to 5G.

Radio Propagation for 5G
5G is expected to utilize high frequency bands. However, the characteristics of radio propagation are different than that on currently used frequency bands. This article discusses issues related to radio propagation in high frequency bands, the results of field testing as well as tests using radio propagation simulation technology.

Future Core Network for 5G
The 5G era will advance through services that utilize high speeds and high capacity, and automobiles, households and wearables will all be connected to wireless networks that will automatically and intelligently both gather information as well manage other services. This article talks about the vision for future core networks and the ongoing research to realize it, including the process to accommodate 5G radio access, describing the technology behind network slicing, and the overall progress in standardization, including the above issues, for networks in the future.

5G Trials with Major Global Vendors
NTT DOCOMO is working with major global venders in order to realize 5G services by 2020 through holding 5G transmission trials in order to verify component technology. This article introduces the results of these transmission trials held in collaboration with other firms.
