5G Standards Frontline Report
The world is continuing to work on deploying a working fifth generation (5G) mobile communication system by 2020. Telecommunication firms as well as telecommunication component vendors are collaborating and conducting projects with global 5G promotion forums such as Korea’s 5G Forum, China’s IM-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, 5G Americas from the United States, Europe’s 5GPP, and, of course, the 5GMF of Japan to achieve this goal. Additionally, discussions on standards for 5G are progressing at the 3GPP.
The Frontline of 5G Standards Report will introduce issues being discussed in relation to 5G standards at the 3GPP as well as activities by 5G forums worldwide. These reports will be provided by Takehiro Nakamura, Deputy Chairman of the Strategy and Planning Committee and Satoshi Nagata, 3GPP TSG TSG-RAN WG1 Chairman, both of NTT DOCOMO. We hope to be able to provide our readers with an inside view of global trends in 5G standards discussions.
